The Lost Pet Series: Part 13

Blain wondered if Leo had gotten lost, captured, or something worse. Too much time had passed. The sun was setting yet again. Another night in the forest?

Gus slithered into the bushes.

“Hey,” Blain barked. “Where are you going?”

“I’m starving. Don’t want to eat you, so I’m gonna take care of my belly.”

“Mind if I join?” Blain asked.

“Fine, but don’t get in my way.”

Watching a snake hunt for food was quite the experience. Blain wondered if Gus was being picky or if he knew precisely what he was looking for.

Then, out of the blue, Gus’s body stiffened. In one quick strike, he grabbed a soft, fuzzy creature.

“Get off me! Get off me!” the creature cried.

Then… silence.

Gus wrapped his body around it.

Blain hid behind a few bushes and closed his eyes. The sounds of the snake eating turned his stomach. He stood up and threw up in three separate places.

“That was gross,” Gus said.

“No, what you did was even more gross,” Blain whimpered, thinking about both Leo and his human.
