Change of Direction

Sometimes it’s easier to say nothing. Just stuff the thoughts and emotions away so no one knows what’s going on.

In good faith, I can’t do that.

This website, where you’re reading this field note, was designed to bring fiction-based marketing and branding first to SaaS, then to HR, and finally to pet companies. I tried so hard. I did everything in my power to reach people in many different ways.

For a year and a half, I reached out to all sorts of people, individuals I never would have dreamed of contacting. For the pet brands, I wrote 49 gifted stories, each specific to a company’s product. It was both exhilarating and confusing.

Two weeks ago, I took a glance at this website’s stats, the likes on my Instagram and LinkedIn posts, and finally my finances. After pulling all the data together, the Chief Financial Officer in me decided that the Plot Department, as a fiction-based business model for other companies, will not work at this time.

Effective last week, the Plot Department is now nothing more than a showcase to demonstrate my fiction writing, where I have full control. I can write novels of any length and genre. I can pen short stories and microfiction. All in my time.

The saddest part of shutting down the pet branding was that I feel like I failed my dog. She was the inspiration behind it. Tears well up in my eyes as I write this.

She can lick my face, but I have no human to hug me, tell me it will be alright, and assure me that my hunt for a job as an implementation specialist (or whatever the proper title is for supporting the growth of electronic health records) will land successfully on every level.

I’m the only one who can do that for myself right now. May my community arrive sooner rather than later. It’s time. Dear God or Creator or Higher Spirit, however you like to be called, bring in the joy. Bring in the connection. Bring in the large sums of money so we can all frolic together.

It’s time!
