Blain whimpered as he thought about all these humans somewhere out there, missing their animal companions. They must be going crazy. Tossing and turning. Unable to eat.
He burrowed into the shrubs, hiding beside a tree.
A familiar voice said, “Blain.”
“Could it be my human?” Blain thought. He then peeked out from behind the shrubs and saw Leo perched on a branch.
“Blain,” Leo said, in the voice of Blain’s human.
“What are you doing?” Blain asked, leaping out of the shrubs, barking.
“A human is calling your name,” Leo said, flapping his wings and landing beside Gus.
“My name?” Gus asked.
“No, silly. Blain’s name.”
“Take me to him,” Blain said, wagging his tail.
